This course is aimed for those students who wish to work and realise their ideasNot only put their ideas on paper and not knowing what the outcome would be. It gives a clear understanding of what one can do with an idea by incorporating it in a pattern. The Bodice is considered to be the focal point of the garmentThese skills are vital for any students who would like a career in fashion designing or pattern making etc. During this course, we will be making bodice blocksbasic dress Foundations and discovering different style variations which derive from the Bodice block. We will be covering different necklines, collars sleeves and all the creative design details! A designer’s dream to be able to manipulate the bodice with her/his own ideas. 

Introduction to pattern designing - The Bodice  

This module focuses on what is needed to start pattern designing, such as: pattern designing tools, figure analysis, blending, trueing and equalizing, fabric grainlines and measurements. 

In order to be successful in pattern designing, students need specific tools to perform accurate patterns which will lead to successful designs.  This course consists of the following lessons: 1:15min hour per lesson plus 4 hours work feedback sessions.(10 hours tuition) 

  • Importance of pattern-making tools.  

  • Pattern Markings and Fabric terms 

  • Figure analysis  

  • Measurements 

Mode of Assessment –Examination 50% Examination 50% 

 

Module 2Bodice blocks  

We will be focusing on the bodice foundations and the dress foundations. Fitting of the bodice on the dress form or on a model. Lessons include 1:15 hour per lesson plus 6 hours of feedback sessions. Total 13 hours 30min of contact hours

Module 3Bodice Design Variations  

 The combinations are endless! We will be going through many styles and procedures if how a bodice fit can be interpreted. Dart manipulation of the front bodice, relocation of the shoulder dart, added fullness to the bodice, and contouring or fitting the pattern to the body are three very significant basic pattern design principles. A future designer or pattern maker would need to master these techniques to come up with original designs. 

Lessons include 1:15min per lesson plus 12:30 hours of feedback sessions. 22:30 hours of contact time

Module 4- More Bodice Design Variations  

 We will be going through more variations that give a bodice a complete look. Different collar ideasanalyzing necklines, yokes, pintucks, and pleats. Very important details can be the centerpiece of a design or as part of detail. Lessons include 1:15min per lesson plus 12:30 hours of feedback sessions. 20:30 hours of contact time

Module 5 

This module sums up all the other modules above. Students will be creating their own pattern design variations of the Bodice. From the flat drawings specs to pattern samples to making own samples in calico. Students will be given a case study.  

Lessons include: 16 hour workshop. 10 hours feedback session. Total contact hours:26 hours
